A pregnant woman safely delivered a baby inside a crowded moving train after quick action by Railway Protection Force personnel and fellow passengers helped save both mother and child.

The incident took place aboard the Pune-Supaul Express on Saturday evening while the train was travelling towards Bihar’s Supaul district after departing from Pune Railway Station.

Among the passengers in the packed general compartment were 28-year-old Rukhsana Khatun from Uttar Pradesh and her husband Jameel Belawar. The couple had planned to get down at Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Junction, but Rukhsana suddenly went into labour as the train approached Ahilyanagar station.

With the train moving at high speed and the coach heavily crowded, immediate medical help was not available. After receiving information about the emergency, Central Railway reportedly activated “Operation Matrishakti”.

RPF constable Somnath Pathade and head constable Vishwajeet Kakde rushed to assist the woman without delay. As labour pain intensified, it became impossible to move her safely out of the compartment.

The railway personnel, along with women passengers travelling in the coach, quickly created a protected area inside the train to ensure a safe delivery.

Soon after, Rukhsana delivered a healthy baby inside the compartment. Passengers reportedly erupted in relief and joy after hearing the newborn cry.

Railway officials had already alerted Ahilyanagar station authorities and arranged a 108 ambulance before the train arrived at the station. Doctors and ambulance staff later shifted the mother and newborn to a nearby civil hospital.

Medical officials confirmed that both the mother and baby are healthy and safe
