A woman head constable, Lavanya, attached to the Royapettah All Women Police Station (AWPS), attempted suicide on Saturday evening after receiving a departmental memo. The memo, issued on August 12, was a result of a review meeting revealing that Lavanya had failed to maintain records of court cases for the Mylapore police district. She was instructed to provide an explanation within five days.

Distressed by the memo and fearing potential departmental action, Lavanya attempted to take her own life. She was rescued and is now undergoing treatment at a hospital. The incident has drawn attention to the pressures faced by police personnel and the need for support mechanisms within the department.
