A 29-year-old woman and her newborn died following a caesarean delivery at a private hospital in the Manjhanpur area late Saturday night, triggering protests by family members and local residents.
According to a police complaint filed by Pradeep Kumar, a farmer from Saurai Khurd village, his wife Mangita Devi was admitted to the hospital around 7 pm after she developed labour pain. Doctors advised a caesarean section and allegedly collected ₹30,000 for the procedure.
The family alleged that Mangita continued to bleed after surgery and that both she and the newborn died later that night. They further claimed that doctors and hospital staff shifted the bodies outside the operation theatre and subsequently left the premises.
Angered by the deaths, family members and locals staged protests late Saturday night and again on Sunday morning. Traffic on the Karari–Manjhanpur road was disrupted for nearly an hour before police from Manjhanpur police station arrived and pacified the crowd.
Both bodies were sent for post-mortem examination.
Chief Medical Officer Dr Sanjay Kumar said a team led by deputy CMO Dr Ashok Kumar Maurya and Manjhanpur medical officer in-charge Dr Neeraj Kumar inspected the hospital on Sunday afternoon but found no doctors or staff present. He added that another inspection would be carried out on Monday and further action would depend on the investigation findings.
Manjhanpur SHO Sunil Kumar Singh confirmed that the post-mortem was ordered based on the husband’s complaint and that a detailed report has been sought from the CMO. Legal action will follow based on the outcome of the investigation, he said.
