A 22-year-old woman was rescued by Delhi Police after she accidentally fell into an open drain while filming a social media reel in Najafgarh.
The woman, identified as Bhavna, was recording a video near her residence when she reportedly lost her balance and slipped into the drain. According to police, she was waist-deep in water by the time help arrived.
A video shared by Delhi Police shows an officer using a rope to carefully pull her to safety. She was rescued without serious injuries.
Rising risks linked to reel culture
The incident has once again drawn attention to the growing trend of filming reels in risky environments. While short-form videos have become increasingly popular, authorities have urged content creators to prioritise safety over viral content.
Police officials advised citizens to remain alert to their surroundings, especially when filming near roads, water bodies or construction zones.
Recent tragic incidents
The Najafgarh incident comes close on the heels of other accidents linked to reel-making. Last week, a 27-year-old woman in Uttar Pradesh reportedly died while filming a staged suicide scene at home. Authorities confirmed the incident was accidental.
Earlier this month, a 23-year-old man lost his life in Delhi’s Dwarka after a minor allegedly performing road stunts for a reel crashed into his motorcycle. The victim’s family has termed the act criminal negligence.
Officials say such cases highlight the urgent need for awareness around responsible content creation. While social media offers creative expression, experts stress that safety must never be compromised for online engagement.
