Mussoorie: A video from the road leading to Mussoorie in Uttarakhand has gained widespread attention on social media after an environmental activist calmly confronted a group of tourists for allegedly throwing plastic waste from a moving vehicle. According to details shared by Anoop Nautiyal, he noticed passengers travelling in a taxi ahead allegedly throwing a plastic cup and spoon from the vehicle window while heading towards Mussoorie.
Instead of ignoring the incident, Nautiyal decided to stop and personally return the discarded items to the tourists.
In the video, the person recording points towards the vehicle and states that the plastic waste had been thrown from the taxi.
Before approaching the passengers, Nautiyal is heard explaining that people should avoid throwing waste in the hills and emphasising the need for maintaining cleanliness.
The video later shows him returning to his vehicle after speaking with the group.
Tourists reportedly acknowledged mistake
According to Nautiyal, the tourists accepted that they had made a mistake after the interaction.
He stated that he requested them not to repeat such behaviour while travelling in Uttarakhand.
The interaction drew attention because of the manner in which it was handled. Rather than publicly criticising or aggressively confronting the individuals involved, Nautiyal chose a restrained approach.
He also stated in the video that littering should not occur anywhere and that the issue was not limited to Uttarakhand alone.
