A 26-year-old woman died under suspicious circumstances after allegedly falling from the terrace of her rented accommodation in the Badambadi police limits late Tuesday night.
The deceased has been identified as Barsha Tripathy, a resident of Manda Sahi in Jagatsinghpur district.
Incident late at night
According to preliminary police findings, the incident occurred around 11.30 pm when Barsha was on the terrace of a three-storey building, reportedly speaking to someone on her mobile phone.
Police rushed to the spot after being alerted and shifted her to SCB Medical College and Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Investigation and key observations
Officials stated that the terrace did not have a parapet wall, which may have contributed to the fall. The mobile phone of the deceased has been seized as part of the investigation.
Neighbours are currently being questioned to gather more details about the circumstances leading to the incident.
Family alleges foul play
Meanwhile, Barsha’s family has raised serious concerns, alleging that the death may not have been accidental. Her uncle claimed that she could have been pushed from the terrace by her former roommate.
The family has urged authorities to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation to uncover the truth.
Probe underway
Police have registered a case and stated that all angles—including accident and foul play—are being examined. Officials said further clarity will emerge based on forensic analysis, witness statements, and mobile phone data.
The incident has sparked concern among residents, highlighting the need for safety measures in residential buildings, particularly terraces without protective barriers.
