New Delhi: Xiaomi has unveiled its latest flagship lineup, the Xiaomi 17 series, which includes the Xiaomi 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max. The series is positioned to compete directly with Apple’s iPhone 17 models, offering innovative features and high-end specifications beyond the branding strategy.
Dynamic back display
The standout feature of the 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max is the ‘Dynamic Back Display’, a secondary rear screen that occupies the entire camera module. First experimented with on the Mi 11 Ultra in 2021, the new rear display is much larger and more functional. The 17 Pro features a 2.7-inch screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and peak brightness of 3,500 nits, while the 17 Pro Max comes with a slightly bigger 2.9-inch unit.
Users can utilise this screen for music playback, countdown timers, messages, calls, and other notifications. It also doubles as a viewfinder for selfies, enabling 8K selfie videos using the main rear sensor. Xiaomi is additionally offering a special gaming case for the Pro models, giving the device a Game Boy-like portable console feel.
Display and chipset
All three models feature AMOLED LTPO panels with 1–120Hz refresh rates. The Xiaomi 17 and 17 Pro have a 6.3-inch screen, while the 17 Pro Max boasts a 6.9-inch display. The series is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, making it the first smartphone lineup to feature the company’s latest flagship processor.
Camera and battery
The base Xiaomi 17 has a 50-megapixel triple camera system with Leica branding, consisting of a main sensor, ultrawide lens, and floating telephoto lens. The 17 Pro and Pro Max share the main and ultrawide sensors but feature a 5x telephoto lens for enhanced zoom capabilities.
Battery capacities are impressive across the series. The Xiaomi 17 packs 7,000mAh with 100W wired and 50W wireless fast charging, the 17 Pro has a 6,300mAh battery, and the 17 Pro Max comes with a 7,500mAh unit with the same charging capabilities.
