A pall of gloom descended on Anandapalli village in Odisha’s Nayagarh district following the untimely death of Indian Army jawan Jitu Behera, who died while on duty in Jammu and Kashmir.
The 30-year-old soldier, posted with the Indian Army, reportedly complained of severe chest pain before suffering a cardiac arrest, according to sources.
Recently married, returned from leave
Behera, who had been married for just ten months, had recently returned to his unit after spending time at his native place on leave. Family members said they became anxious after losing contact with him, before officials later confirmed the tragic news.
The sudden death of the young soldier has left his family and villagers in deep shock, with locals describing him as disciplined, soft-spoken and deeply committed to serving the nation.
Chief Minister expresses grief
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed profound grief over Behera’s death and conveyed condolences to the bereaved family.
In a post on X, the Chief Minister described the loss as irreparable for both the state and the country. He acknowledged Behera’s dedication and sacrifice, stating that his patriotism and service to the nation would continue to inspire the youth.
“The loss of an Odia boy who dedicated himself to the security of the country is an irreparable loss for our state and the nation. His service and commitment will always remain a source of inspiration,” Majhi said, adding prayers for peace to the departed soul.
Nation salutes a fallen soldier
Behera’s death has renewed conversations around the physical and emotional demands faced by soldiers serving in challenging conditions. Villagers and well-wishers have called for continued support to the family of the fallen jawan.
Final rites are expected to be conducted at his native village with full honours.
