A tragic road accident in west Delhi’s Janakpuri has once again raised serious questions over civic negligence and public safety, after a 25-year-old man died when his motorcycle fell into an uncovered pit dug for construction work.
Uncovered pit turns fatal during late-night commute
The victim was returning home from his office late at night when the incident occurred near Joginder Singh Marg, close to Green Valley Apartments. Preliminary police findings suggest that a deep pit had been dug on the road as part of ongoing construction work, allegedly without proper barricades or warning signage.
The biker is believed to have lost control of his motorcycle and fallen into the pit, sustaining fatal injuries on the spot.
Family searches through the night, answers come too late
Family members said the man went missing after leaving work and did not return home. When his phone became unreachable, relatives spent the entire night visiting multiple police stations across west Delhi in search of information.
They alleged that despite repeated visits to nearly a dozen police stations, no clear details were shared. It was only around 7 am the following morning that police informed the family that his body had been found at the accident site.
Negligence alleged, accountability demanded
The victim’s family has accused the concerned civic authorities and departments of gross negligence, stating that the absence of barricading and warning signs directly led to the fatal accident. They have demanded strict action against those responsible for compromising road safety.
Police officials said an investigation is underway to establish the exact sequence of events and to fix responsibility. Further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry.
Incidents like these have renewed public concern over unsafe road excavations, particularly during night hours, and the urgent need for stricter enforcement of safety norms.
