Mussoorie: The body of a 22-year-old man was found inside a loader jeep near Maggi Point on the Mussoorie-Dehradun road, prompting police to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death.
The deceased was identified as Manish, a resident of Takarna village in the Jaunpur area. According to the report, he regularly travelled towards Dehradun in his loader jeep in the early hours to collect goods.
Police investigate suspicious circumstances
Manish had reportedly left home as usual on Thursday morning. His body was later spotted inside the vehicle near Maggi Point, following which locals informed the police.
Police said the young man was found towards the rear of the vehicle with a rope around his neck. Family members and locals had reportedly removed him from the position before officers arrived.
Mussoorie Station House Officer Devendra Chauhan said the incident appeared to be a case of suicide at first sight, but officers were examining all possibilities before reaching a conclusion.
The body was sent to Coronation Hospital in Dehradun for a post-mortem examination. Police said the exact cause of death would be established after the report is received.
CCTV footage under examination
Investigators are examining CCTV footage from nearby areas to establish Manish’s movements and determine how he reached Maggi Point. Police are also trying to ascertain whether anyone accompanied him and what happened before his death.
The incident has caused grief in Takarna village, where residents described Manish as a hardworking young man. Some locals have raised questions about the circumstances and called for a thorough investigation.
Police said further action will depend on the post-mortem findings and evidence gathered during the investigation.
