A 22-year-old woman lost her life in a tragic road accident after an e-rickshaw she was travelling in was allegedly struck from behind by a police employee near Kali Paltan Bridge.

The victim, identified as Nikita, was seated in the e-rickshaw when the collision occurred at high speed. According to the e-rickshaw driver, the force of the impact threw her onto the road, leaving her critically injured. She was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital but later succumbed to her injuries.

Eyewitnesses allege intoxication

Eyewitnesses at the scene alleged that the police staff member appeared to be under the influence at the time of the crash. However, officials have not yet confirmed these claims.

Residents gathered at the accident site soon after the incident. In a tense turn of events, locals reportedly detained the accused driver and handed him over to the police.

Protest at hospital

Tension later spread to the civil hospital where the victim’s family staged a protest demanding strict action against the accused. They called for accountability and stringent punishment in cases involving rash and negligent driving, particularly when public servants are involved.

Police have not yet issued an official statement confirming whether the accused was intoxicated. Authorities said that a probe is underway and appropriate action will be taken based on the findings.

The incident has sparked renewed concern over road safety and responsible conduct on public roads, with residents urging stricter enforcement to prevent similar tragedies.
