Youth Congress Protests Near Parliament Over NEET, Try To Remove Barricades

Youth Congress

Members of the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) staged a protest near parliament today, alleging a leak of the NEET-UG exam papers. Hundreds of IYC members clashed with police and breached barricades during the demonstration.

Describing it as a “parliament gherao” movement, the protesters vowed to continue their march. They highlighted widespread student and parental unrest due to accusations of paper leaks and irregularities.

“IYC workers have taken to the streets of Delhi today, echoing the grievances of students affected by the alleged paper leak,” stated IYC chief BV Srinivas in a social media post.

The NEET-UG exam has been embroiled in controversy, with claims of cheating and impersonation. The National Testing Agency (NTA), responsible for conducting the exam, has faced intense scrutiny, sparking protests and legal challenges. In response, the Union Health Ministry has postponed the NEET-PG 2024 examination, promising new dates soon.

In a bid to address concerns, the government has replaced the NTA chief and established a committee to overhaul its operations. The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear related petitions on July 8.

Amid escalating scrutiny, the Bihar government has transferred the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which has already detained several suspects. Recently, a CBI team visited a school in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand, questioning school personnel, including the principal, as part of its intensified probe into alleged irregularities.
