A tragic incident occurred at the Sunburn electronic dance music festival in Dhargal village, Goa, when a 26-year-old youth, Karan Kashyap from Rohini, Delhi, collapsed during the event on Saturday night. The incident took place at around 9:45 PM, and despite immediate efforts to rush him to a nearby private hospital in Mapusa, Kashyap was declared dead while undergoing treatment.
The cause of his death remains uncertain, and a post-mortem is scheduled at Goa Medical College and Hospital. Police have indicated they will investigate the possibility of foul play, and further action will be taken if any such evidence is found.
This isn’t the first time the Sunburn Festival has been linked to such incidents. In 2019, three people died at the event, sparking political discussions around the safety of such large-scale festivals in Goa. Despite this, the festival remains one of the most popular year-end celebrations in the state.
In an unrelated incident, a 50-year-old woman collapsed and died at a retirement party in Kota, Rajasthan last week. The woman, Deepika Sandal, was with her husband at his office when she suddenly fell, and despite efforts to revive her, she was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.
