Youth shoots himself in police vehicle: investigation in process

A judicial inquiry has been launched into the case of a youth who allegedly shot himself in a police vehicle outside the Gharinda police station on Wednesday night. The deceased, Manjit Singh from Khasa, was detained alongside his accomplice, Parnam Singh, following intelligence reports about their involvement in illegal arms possession.

The police had confiscated an illegal pistol from the duo. As per the authorities, while being escorted to the police vehicle, Manjit reportedly shot himself with his licensed weapon. The post-mortem was conducted in the presence of Justice Vinay Agarwal, and the body was subsequently handed over to his family. Statements from the family and police officers involved in the incident were recorded during the probe.

The police have registered a case under the Arms Act against Manjit and Parnam for their alleged role in arms and narcotics smuggling. The case is under investigation, with a judicial probe expected to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident.
