Kadri’s public toilet: a shocking eyesore for tourists and locals alike
The public restroom near Kadri ground has become a disturbing sight for both locals and visitors, highlighting severe neglect. A strong, unpleasant odor greets anyone approaching the facility, making it almost impossible to use. Inside, the conditions are equally distressing, with filthy floors, overrun toilets, scattered garbage, and stained walls, creating an unbearable environment.
The broken fixtures, such as a cracked sink, further contribute to its already unsightly appearance. This is particularly alarming for Kadri, a popular tourist spot where visitors expect a basic level of hygiene and cleanliness. Sadly, this facility falls far short, reflecting poorly on the area and the city’s reputation for offering a welcoming atmosphere.
Adding to the disgrace are the constantly lit lights, water leaks, and remnants of tetra packs and decaying food in the wash basin, amplifying the unpleasantness. It’s worrying that the local corporator either hasn’t noticed or ignored the urgent need for maintenance of this essential public service.
While Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) focuses on park development and pond restoration, the upkeep of vital infrastructure like public toilets seems neglected. Facilities funded through CSR initiatives with the corporation are similarly ignored, leading to conditions like the one at Kadri.
Recently, a group of 100 Tamil Nadu tourists, including 50 women, arrived at Kadri ground, only to be shocked by the state of the toilet, leaving them unable to use it. This embarrassing experience highlights the urgent need for better care of public facilities.
