Kalaburagi Bandh on December 24 Over Amit Shah’s Remarks on Ambedkar
Dalit leaders in Kalaburagi have called for a district-wide bandh on December 24 to protest Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s controversial remarks about Dr. B.R. Ambedkar during a recent Parliament session. The decision was made at a meeting of backward class and Dalit leaders at Aiwan-E-Shahi Guest House on Thursday.
Dalit leader Vithal Doddamani criticized Shah, stating, “Without Ambedkar’s Constitution, such high positions would be unattainable. Speaking lightly of him is unacceptable. We demand action and will organize a massive march from Nagareshwar School to the deputy commissioner’s office.”
Suryakant Nimbalakar decried the use of Ambedkar’s name to attack political opponents, calling it a reckless act that deserves condemnation from all parties. Shravan Kumar Musalagi emphasized Ambedkar’s unparalleled contributions, urging Shah to apologize instead of justifying his statements.
Kalaburagi Mahanagar Palike councillor Renuka Singe expressed anguish, accusing Shah of still adhering to the Manusmriti mindset. Other leaders, including Mallappa Hosamani, Nagendra Javali, and Vishal Dargi, echoed similar sentiments, denouncing any disrespect toward Ambedkar’s legacy.
The bandh will include a protest march and is expected to receive widespread participation. Leaders across communities are uniting to defend Ambedkar’s honor and legacy.
