Kalaburagi: Minister of Medical Education Ajay Singh has formally requested additional funding from the Karnataka Regional Development Board (KKRDB) to complete the construction of the Jayadeva Cardiology and Research Institute Hospital in Kalaburagi. The announcement came following Singh’s inspection of the hospital’s construction site on Wednesday.
During his visit, Singh highlighted the crucial role the Jayadeva Hospital will play in providing advanced cardiac care to not only Kalaburagi residents but also individuals from the surrounding districts. Currently, the project has been allocated a grant of ₹222.65 crore. However, Singh indicated that an additional ₹40 crore might be necessary to bring the project to completion. He assured that these funds would be provided as part of a macro grant aimed at ensuring the hospital’s successful inauguration.
The hospital, which is anticipated to open in September, promises to deliver high-quality treatment for heart diseases and related surgeries. This development is expected to significantly reduce the need for patients to travel to major cities like Bangalore and Hyderabad for specialised cardiac care. The exact opening date will be finalised following consultations between Singh, the Chief Minister, and other relevant officials.
Addressing political concerns, Singh dismissed any speculation about changes in the state government, affirming that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will preside over the hospital’s inauguration. Singh rebuffed opposition calls for the Chief Minister’s resignation, describing them as unfounded.
Regarding hospital management, Singh acknowledged the necessity of effective administration to ensure the optimal use of the grants provided by KKRDB. He announced plans to establish a management committee, which will be formed after further discussions with the Minister of Medical Education.
In addition to the hospital project, the KKRDB has also introduced the Heart Line Ambulance Service. As part of this initiative, the board is in the process of procuring 50 ambulances, including 7 Basic Life Support (BLS) vehicles and 43 Advanced Life Support (ALS) vehicles. This expansion aims to enhance emergency cardiac care and improve patient transport across the region.
The announcement and related activities were attended by several notable figures, including Legislative Council Member Jagdev Guttedara, KKRDB Secretary M. Sundaresh Babu, and Leader Neelkantha Rao. Their presence underscores the significance of the project and the collaborative effort involved in its realization.
