The Kalaburagi University Police have arrested a notorious thief, Kallappa alias Sanju, along with his accomplice Santosh, bringing an end to a series of thefts and robberies reported in the region. The arrests have helped police crack multiple house theft cases that had troubled residents in recent months.


Accused stole to fund personal expenses

Police officials revealed that Kallappa had resorted to thefts to meet the expenses of his live-in partner. The duo would steal valuables and later sell them through Kallappa’s girlfriend, who assisted in disposing of the stolen property.

Kallappa, a resident of Gaur (B) village in Afzalpur taluk, and Santosh had been active across Kalaburagi, targeting houses during periods of low surveillance.


Stolen property worth ₹7.20 lakh recovered

With their arrest, police recovered approximately ₹7.20 lakh worth of valuables, including 61 grams of gold and 680 grams of silver. Officers stated that the recovery of jewellery has already provided relief to residents affected by the thefts.

The Kalaburagi University Police confirmed that the arrests have helped solve five house theft cases, while the accused are linked to six cases of theft and robbery in total.


Investigation to continue

Authorities are now investigating the role of additional individuals who may have assisted the duo, including those involved in selling the stolen items. Police said further recoveries are expected as interrogation progresses.
