We all remember the Easter attack that shook the entire country and Christians over the world back in 2019. And now, after just half a decade, the church is all set to begin canonizing the innocent victims.

The Catholic church can now expect to see a whole new school of saints with hundreds of them having been killed in the incident where eight suicide bombers went about destroying churches and hotels, massacring those around  in cold blood.

While the incident set the entire country in turmoil and shock, suspending the masses and closing down schools, the families never got justice for their loved ones as it was hard to identify the perpetrators involved in this case.

What they do get now is something better as the Archbishop of Colombo has already set the stage to begin the entire process.

An archdiocesan official has confirmed the news with CNA. Father Joy Indika Perera, who serves as a representative of Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith of Colombo has sent a letter stating the archdiocese plan to send the Vatican Dicastery a petition, which will reach on the 21st of April, marking five years from the exact date of the incident.

The church intends to canonize the victims, calling them martyrs of faith. This is now a proud moment for two churches that, five years back, mourned the death of its children. Pilgrims coming to Sri Lanka sure won’t head back without a visit to both St Sebastian and St Anthony’s church, that once held all these martyrs who died for their faith.
