Kannadigas residing in China have dismissed circulating rumors about a widespread outbreak of human metapneumovirus (HMPV), reassuring their families in Karnataka that life remains unaffected. Videos shared by the residents aim to counter the misinformation that has sparked concerns.
Raju Nayak, a Kannadiga living in Dalian, northern China, posted a video to clarify the situation. Speaking in Kannada, he refuted claims of overcrowded hospitals, panic, and chaos. Nayak emphasized that daily life is proceeding as usual, with no disruption to normal activities. He filmed bustling streets, open shopping malls, and mask-free people, assuring viewers, “Everything is functioning as usual. The visuals shared on social media are misleading.”
To further debunk the rumors, Nayak visited local landmarks, including Dalian’s Olympic Square and a hospital. He showed empty hospital corridors, explaining that while flu cases are common due to the cold weather, the situation is nowhere near as severe as suggested. Nayak also addressed a friend’s concern about overcrowded hospitals, pointing out that such claims are not true. He urged everyone to avoid spreading false information, emphasizing that there is no reason to worry about HMPV in China.
