Dubai: Karnataka Sangha Qatar (an associate organization under the aegis of the Indian Embassy, Doha, Qatar), in collaboration with the Indian Cultural Center, celebrated “Engineers Day” on 15th September 2024 to commemorate the 163rd birth anniversary of the extraordinary engineer and exemplary statesman, Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya. The event was held at Ashoka Hall of the Indian Cultural Center, Doha, Qatar. The Chief Guest for the event was Indian Ambassador to Qatar H.E. Mr. Vipul, and the Chief Guest of Honor was Mr. Abdulla Ibrahim Y A Fakhroo, Head of Operations & Maintenance at Kahramaa – Electrical Transmission Department.
The event was officially inaugurated by the lighting of the lamp by dignitaries present, followed by a short video presentation on the life and achievements of Bharat Ratna Sir Visvesvaraya. Mr. Ravi Shetty, in his Presidential address, welcomed the gathering, wished everyone a “Happy Engineers Day,” and thanked the Indian Cultural Center for collaborating with Karnataka Sangha Qatar in celebrating the occasion. He also appreciated the efforts of the fellow MC members and volunteers in organizing the event.
The highlight of the day was the keynote tech talk by Mr. Seenu Pillai, Commissioning Manager, ASTAD Project Management, on “Paradigm Shift in the Building Construction Industry.” The talk focused on the shifts occurring due to climate change and in relation to the Montreal Protocol, Kyoto Protocol, and the Paris Agreement. Another keynote was delivered by Mr. Kishore V, an Electrical Engineer with Technip Energies, on the topic “Energy Transition Around Us.” He spoke on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, energy transition observed at the corporate level through brand change, and large-scale solar plants in India and Qatar. Mementos were presented to both engineers by President Mr. Ravi Shetty and Advisory Committee member Mr. V S Mannangi in appreciation of their technical talks.
Mr. Manikantan A P, the President of the Indian Cultural Center, noted in his speech that the Indian Cultural Center’s committee of eleven team members includes seven engineers, whose impact at the community level is notable. He appreciated Karnataka Sangha for organizing Engineers Day annually with a variety of technical programs at the Indian Cultural Center. Chief Guest His Excellency Mr. Vipul lauded the efforts and contributions of Indian engineers in Qatar, highlighting their achievements in space programs and information technology. Being a mechanical engineer himself, he remarked that engineers can make anything possible with their innovative approach and determination. Guest of Honor Mr. Abdulla Ibrahim Y A Fakhroo also appreciated the Indian engineering fraternity in Qatar and the significant contributions of engineers in all fields to the development of Qatar. He acknowledged the achievements of his Indian colleagues in his department. Special mementos were presented to the Chief Guest and Guest of Honor by the Indian Cultural Center and Karnataka Sangha President jointly.
In recognition of contributions to engineering and social support, Karnataka Sangha Qatar conferred the “Abhiyantarashree” awards on Engineer members Mr. Harish Baliga, Operations Manager with Venture Gulf Engineering, and Mr. Subramanya Hebbagelu, Quality Control and Quality Assurance Engineer with Galfar Al Misnad. Both recipients thanked Karnataka Sangha Qatar and shared their experiences as engineers and their connection with the community.
It was a moment of pride and happiness for all present at the event, as Karnataka Sangha Qatar will be completing 25 years of its formation. To commemorate this milestone, a special Silver Jubilee logo was graciously unveiled by His Excellency Mr. Vipul. This session was conducted by Mr. Arun Kumar, Senior Most Former President of Karnataka Sangha Qatar.
Indian Cultural Center and Indian Community Benevolent Forum Past President Mr. Baburajan, ICC Past President Ms. Milan Arun, Karnataka Sangha Advisory Board Members Mr. Arun Kumar, Mr. V. S. Mannangi, Mr. Deepak Shetty, Mr. H. K. Madhu, several associate organization presidents and community leaders, and members of the Indian Cultural Center and Karnataka Sangha Qatar were present during the event. Mr. Ramesha K S, Vice President of Karnataka Sangha Qatar, efficiently conducted the program as the Master of Ceremony. Mr. Mohan Kumar, General Secretary of the Indian Cultural Centre, proposed the vote of thanks. The event officially concluded with a group photo of all attendees.
