Ottawa: For the first time in history of Canada, Kannada language was used in Canadian Parliament. It is a matter of pride for Kannadigas that Kannada language has been recognised in Canada while we are fighting for its survival in our own State, Karnataka.
Chandra Arya from Karnataka, who is currently elected to the Canadian Parliament, won the hearts of Kannadigas by delivering a speech in Kannada at the Canadian Parliament.
Following is the gist of Chandra Arya’s speech in the Parliament of Canada. “Hon’ble Speaker I am happy that I have got the opportunity to speak in my mother tongue Kannada in the Parliament of Canada. It is a proud moment for nearly 5 Crore Kannadigas when a man from Dwaralu Village in Sira Taluk of Tumakuru District in the Indian State of Karnataka has been elected as a Member of Parliament in Canada and speaks in Kannada. In 2018, Kannadigas from Canada celebrated Kannada Rajyotsava in this Parliament of Canada. He concluded speech with Kuvempu’s poem which was sung by Dr. Rajkumar ‘Elladaru iru, Entadaru iru, Endendigu nee Kannadvagiru’.
Chandra Arya uploaded a video clip of the speech on his Twitter handle and wrote, “I spoke my mother tongue Kannada in the Canadian Parliament. This language has long history and is spoken by about 50 million people. This is the first time Kannada is spoken in any parliament in the world outside of India.”
Now the video uploaded by Chandra Arya has touched the hearts of Kannadigas and has gone viral on social media. The video has already garnered over 360000 views and over 33,000 likes. More than 7,000 retweets have been retweeted and a lot of Kannadigas are showering praises.
