Kalaburagi: Two boys died after falling into a foundation trench that was filled with rainwater for an overhead tank that the L&T Company was constructing.
The deceased were identified as Sanjay Gandhi Nagar residents Abhishek Suresh Kannol (12) and Ajay Bhimashankar Nelogi (12). They both lost their balance while playing on Saturday night. Police reported that the remains were discovered in the trench early on Sunday.
Overhead tanks are being built by L&T Company in 12 locations across the city. Even at Dubai Colony, the construction has been ongoing for six months, with a brief hiatus. The tank’s column was set into a 15-foot-deep trench while the surrounding region was left unprotected. Even though it is on the side of the road, there is no signboard. The youngsters who went outside to play were killed when they slipped into the pit because of the persistent rain. Locals claim that the firm was negligent in this situation.
The family insisted on making a formal agreement to pay out Rs. 10 lakhs in compensation. After receiving a guarantee from corporate executives, the boys’ remains were removed.
A case has been registered at Chowk Police Station.
