Kasargod: The forest officials have found a large skeleton of a whale, nearly a decade and a half ago, in the shed of a house near Manjeshwar. The officials have seized about 15 acres of land owned by a man from Karnataka at Manjeswara Kanvatheertha beach.
When forest department officials contacted the owner of the site, he said that he had stored the skeleton of a whale at Kanvatheertha beach in 2007 and was paid Rs 27,000 for the same. As per sources, he told the forest officials that the shed was constructed at that cost.
The skeleton has been recovered by forest officials. The remains of the skeleton will be subjected to DNA testing, forest range officer Solomon K George said. “Further action will be taken after receiving the report,” said the police.
