Bagalkot: Honappa Chidananda Dharmatti, a promising cyclist from Marapur village in Bagalkot, has earned a place in the upcoming National Road Cycling Championship, scheduled to take place on December 4 in Odisha. This marks a significant milestone in his sporting career and is a testament to his dedication and hard work in the field of competitive cycling.
Honappa’s selection for the national event follows his impressive performance in the 15th State Road Cycling Championship for boys under 16, held in Mysuru. In a highly competitive race with 33 participants from sports schools across various districts of Karnataka, Honappa secured an outstanding second-place finish.
The race, covering a distance of 30 kilometres, tested the endurance and speed of all the young cyclists. Honappa completed the race in a time of just 21 minutes and 26 seconds, showcasing not only his physical stamina but also his tactical awareness and racing skills. His performance was exceptional, particularly considering the level of competition from other top-tier cyclists in the state.
Honappa’s journey to success can be attributed to the nurturing environment provided by the Chandargi Sports Residential School, where he is currently a student. The school has been instrumental in honing his cycling skills, providing him with the training and resources necessary to compete at a high level. Under the guidance of experienced coaches, Honappa has refined his techniques and gained the confidence to excel in state and national competitions.
The school has a well-established reputation for producing athletes who perform at the state and national levels, and Honappa’s selection for the National Road Cycling Championship only adds to this legacy. His achievement is not just a personal triumph but also a reflection of the school’s commitment to fostering young sporting talent in the region.
With his place secured in the National Road Cycling Championship, Honappa now faces the challenge of competing at a much higher level. The event in Odisha will bring together the best cyclists from across the country, providing Honappa with the opportunity to showcase his abilities on a national stage. While the competition will be fierce, Honappa’s recent performance in Mysuru has set high expectations for his future in competitive cycling.
For Honappa, the upcoming national championship is more than just a race—it is a step towards realising his dreams of becoming a top-level cyclist. His hard work, dedication, and passion for the sport have already earned him recognition, and the national event will serve as a crucial platform to further his career. As he prepares for the challenge ahead, the young cyclist from Marapur village is determined to give his best and make a mark on the national stage.
Honappa’s achievement serves as an inspiration for other young athletes in the region, particularly those from rural areas, showing that with perseverance and the right training, dreams can be turned into reality. His story highlights the importance of supportive environments like the Chandargi Sports Residential School in helping students unlock their full potential and pursue their passion for sports.
As Honappa heads into the National Road Cycling Championship, he will carry with him the hopes of his family, school, and community. His success is a reminder that local talent, when given the right opportunities, can compete and excel on the national stage.
