Village In Darkness, Residents Suffer Without Electricity

Bagalkot ;Koppa village in Bisana, Hunagunda taluk, has been plunged into darkness for years, with no electricity connection in sight. Residents are forced to travel to neighboring towns to charge their mobile phones, highlighting the dire situation.

In 2007, the village was inundated by the backwaters of the Narayanpura Basavasagar Reservoir, displacing residents who have been living in tin sheds for 13 years. Despite being relocated to a new rehabilitation center, they continue to face numerous challenges, including the lack of electricity.

While 60% of families have received rights from the Department of Rehabilitation and Reconstruction, the remaining 40% await title deeds. The absence of electricity has forced most residents to live in tin sheds, with only eight houses constructed. Daily activities rely on neighboring towns, and the lack of electricity has affected children’s education.

The rehabilitation center is also infested with scorpions and snakes, with at least one person bitten every night and five snake bites reported. Solar lamps provided by the Gram Panchayat offer limited relief, providing only 1-2 hours of light, and failing during rainy or cloudy weather.

Villagers are pleading with officials and people’s representatives to provide a reliable electricity connection, tired of empty promises. The darkness has become a constant companion, affecting every aspect of their lives.
