Karnataka’s Large and Medium Industries Minister, M. B. Patil, announced plans to establish a jeans park at Sanjeevarayanakote near Ballari under the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB). The project leverages political uncertainty in Bangladesh, a global jeans production hub, to attract investors and strengthen Ballari’s jeans industry.
Key highlights include:
- Land acquisition: 154 acres have been secured for the park.
- Job creation: Over 500 existing jeans units in Ballari currently generate thousands of jobs. The park aims to develop the area into an organized export hub.
- Incentives: The Industries Department and Textile Ministry will collaborate to discuss potential incentives for manufacturers.
The initiative fulfills Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s commitment made during the Bharat Jodo Yatra. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah emphasized the project’s inclusion in the February 2024 state budget, aiming to elevate Ballari’s jeans industry to global standards.
