Bengaluru: In a bid to maintain the aesthetic appeal of Bengaluru and ensure public safety, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has launched a crackdown on illegal advertisements in the city. As per the latest reports, a total of 8,362 flexes and banners have been removed, and 142 FIRs have been registered against those responsible for installing them.
Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Urban Development Minister DK Shivakumar has issued strict directives to the BBMP to ensure that no unauthorized advertisements are displayed in the city. The Chief Commissioner of the Corporation, Tushar Girinath, has confirmed that legal action is being taken against those installing flexes and banners illegally.
A review meeting will be held by Special Commissioner of Revenue Department Munish Maudgil to assess the situation and gather reports from senior zonal officials. Since June 1, a total of 267 complaints have been registered in the police station, resulting in 142 FIRs and a fine of Rs. 1 lakh 3 thousand.
The BBMP has warned citizens that installing unauthorized flexes and banners can cause inconvenience and increase the risk of casualties. Most of the illegal advertisements are birthday wishes flexes installed on major roads, and citizens are instructed not to install any unauthorized flexes or banners on roadsides, footpaths, junctions, or flyovers.
The police officers are cooperating with the Corporation in removing unauthorized advertisements, and citizens can report any illegal advertisements by calling 1533 or WhatsApping 9480683939. The BBMP has assured that appropriate action will be taken against offenders.
