Beed district witnessed widespread unrest on Tuesday as social and political groups observed a bandh following the circulation of disturbing videos and photos depicting the brutal murder of Massajog sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh. The shocking visuals, which went viral on social media, sparked anger and led to heightened tensions in various parts of the district.
In Kaij town, businesses were closed, and public transport remained off the roads as protests intensified. Members of different Maratha outfits organized a bike rally, and incidents of arson were reported across the city, further escalating the situation.
The protestors are demanding swift and strict action against those arrested in connection with Deshmukh’s murder. In response to the public outcry, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and minister Dhananjay Munde resigned in the morning on the direction of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
The protests reflect the deep anger and frustration of local communities over the heinous crime, and the situation remains tense as authorities work to restore order.
