Bagalakote: Farmers of Kulageri Hobli staged a protest at the MRN Sugar Factory in Kallapura SK Village here in the District and wanted factory to shut down and thus shouted slogans.
As sugarcane farmers laid siege to the factory, police officials who arrived at the spot tried vacating the farmers and said Section 144 was in force and no one can stand there. The farmers, who were not afraid of the police’s threats, said, “We have started our protest calmly, and we will continue to do so.” As soon as the farmers turned around, the police changed course and tried their best to diffuse the situation.
Some people are trying to divide our farmers and suppress our protests. The farmers added that they will not give in to all this.
The factory paid Rs. 2,900. You have to give it to us in writing. They insisted that all the sugar factories in the District should be closed till their demands were satisfied.
The factory management, who pacified the farmers, waited for sometime and then said that they could not give anything in writing, making the farmers even more angry.
The police officials, who interfered, requested the farmers to allow the harvested sugarcane to be crushed so that it does not get spoilt.
