Bagalakote: Facebook is one of the most used social media in the world. Millions of people are active on Facebook today. We come across many frauds that happen through misuse of social media. However very few people take to Facebook and do undertake great causes.

Here is such a team from Bagalakote who have created a Facebook page to educate people on great personalities who have served in various fields such as Science, Art & Architecture, Literature, Academics, Social Sciences etc. Through this Facebook page resource persons too are invited to give lecture regarding such personalities.

The page that started in March 20, 2020 at the time of lockdown was ideated by Writer Rajashekhar Mathapati and guided by another Writer B. R. Polispatil. The page includes achievers from undivided Bagalakote District. The page that was started by a Kannada Lecturer Prakash Khade has now turned into a platform to share information about the District.

When the Belakayitu Bagalakote team approached resource persons for lecturing many were unaware of Facebook as a platform. The team then trained them on how to use Facebook and sensitised them to make good use of social media.

The Belakayitu Bagalakote Facebook page telecast lectures on Saint Ibrahim Sutar, S. S. Malawad, Parijatha Artiste Sulikeri Yamunavva, Kandakall Hanumanthraya, Bagalakote Journalism journey and many more. Around 143 lectures were organised on their FB page. The programmes were premiered on Sunday of every week.

Apart from this, they also took up a special series on freedom fighters in August and September last year. On the page they also organised programme on agriculture, business, education and other sectors of the District when Bagalkote District celebrated the 25th year of its inception as a District under the name, Belli Belagu. Over 4,500 citizens watched the lectures on FB Live.

Speaking to NewsKarnataka Prakash Khade said, “During pandemic we thought of doing something unique which can educate and spread awareness regarding the District through social media. Many are unaware of social media lecturing in our region so to give awareness we began this page. The page helps people be in regular touch with literature. And it also serves an inspiration for youth when they learn about achievers from the District from various fields.”
