Belagavi: Post-independence, Basavaraj Horatti has made significant contributions in the field of education in Karnataka, said Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai

Speaking after felicitating Horatti who got elected as the Chairman of the State Legislative Council here on Wednesday December 21, he said that the changes that were ushered by Horatti as Primary and Secondary Education Minister had brought stability in the education field. Despite being a teachers’ representative he took tough decisions as an able administrator and that helped the education field to witness progress. Some of these achievements have been teachers’ transfers and the construction of high schools and colleges. He had promptly done the work of teachers, he noted.

CM said that everyone was happy with the unanimous election of Horatti as the Council Chairman and the entire House has respected his seniority and experience. The unanimous selection of the Chairman of the Council is done to uphold the honour of the upper House. As a senior member of the House, Horatti has the experience of handling several responsibilities and winning the friendship and affection of all the members for handling the House impartially, he observed.

“I know Horatti from his first election. Before starting his public life he worked as a teacher and organised the teaching community. He has won the affection of teachers. Horatti has been winning every election on his own strength and never turned back. He has been winning every election easily and improved his personality through his work. His 40 years of public life are ideal and have always protected the interest of the voters. He is known for straight talk but does not keep anything in his heart. Horatti has been close to almost all the chief ministers. Hailing from Bagalakote District, he is spending most of his life in Hubballi, and working as the voice of North Karnataka. He played a vital role in the establishment of Law University in Hubballi. I wish people’s welfare decisions would be taken under his guidance. Horatti has done justice to people by taking decisions above the party with which he is associated. Let his experience help in the all-round development of North Karnataka,” said Bommai.
