Belagavi: Custody death of drug peddling suspect, CID to probe

Belagavi: A drug peddling suspect from the Hukkeri Taluk’s Kakati village died in police custody on the night of Friday November 11.  However, according to the City Police, he died because of health problems.

Belagavi Rural Police brought the suspect, Basangouda Irangouda Patil (45), into customs for questioning, under the provisions of the NDPA Act.

According to sources, Patil complained of having health problems Near Kakati village and treatment was given. He was brought to the police station for questioning after his health condition improved.

During interrogation at the police station, Patil once more complained about his health. He was then admitted to the Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences District Hospital for treatment, where he passed away more than an hour later.

A complaint from the deceased’s wife will be taken into consideration, and the case will be handed to CID for future investigations, informed Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Ravindra Gadadi.
