Belagavi: Despite rising water levels in the rivers, Belagavi district faces no immediate flood threat, according to Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan. Speaking to the media after inspecting the water levels of the Krishna, Ghataprabha, and Hiranyakeshi rivers on Wednesday, Roshan assured that all necessary precautionary measures have been taken to address any potential flood situation.
Roshan highlighted that 26 boats are on standby to respond to emergencies, with additional boats available from Karwar if needed. During his inspection, Roshan checked the inflow and water level of the Ghataprabha River near Sutagatti and later visited Sankeshwar town to review villages prone to flooding. Tahsildar Manjula Nayak reported that the Hukkeri taluk administration has prepared a list of relief centers, established during the severe flood in 2019, and necessary arrangements are in place to tackle any flood scenario.
The DC also instructed officials to place caution boards to prevent people from crossing submerged low-lying bridges. Roshan inspected the Krishna River near Yadur village in Chikodi taluk by boat and reviewed the inflow near Manjari village. He discussed rescue measures for humans and animals in the event of a flood, urging officials to remain vigilant as heavy rainfall continues in neighboring Maharashtra.
Chikodi Assistant Commissioner Basavaraj Sampaganvi, Tahsildar CS Kulkarni, and officials from the water resources department were present during the inspection.
