Belagavi Faces Stray Dog Crisis Amidst Insufficient Sterilization Efforts

Belagavi: Belagavi city is grappling with a significant rise in its stray dog population, which has surged to an alarming 22,000. Over the past two years, only 4,831 dogs have been sterilized, falling short of addressing the growing issue. In response to escalating concerns and financial strains on municipal resources, Mayor Savita Kamble has taken decisive action.

During a recent general meeting, Mayor Kamble expressed frustration over the inefficacy of the current sterilization efforts and the substantial compensations the city has been forced to pay for stray dog attacks. To remedy the situation, she has mandated the issuance of a new tender within the next 15 days to appoint a different contractor for sterilization surgeries. Additionally, she has ordered the relocation of sterilization operations from Srinagar to more effective locations within the city.

This move aims to increase the pace and efficiency of sterilization procedures, which are crucial in controlling the stray dog population and mitigating related issues such as dog attacks and municipal financial burdens. The situation highlights the urgent need for a more robust and effective strategy to manage stray dogs and improve public safety in Belagavi.
