Belagavi: Five people have been arrested for posing as police and extorting a large sum of money from a person.
Zakir Hussain Qutbuddin Maniyar (42), Basavaraja Gurappa Patil (32), Sarvesha Mohan Tudvekar (38), Shahabuddin T (41), and Naeem Mohammadshafi Mulla (30) have been identified as the arrested accused.
According to the police, Ataullah M. H. of Ramtheertha Nagar filed a complaint, which led to the arrest of the accused. The complaint claims that the accused stopped the victim’s car while pretending to be police and charged him with transporting ganja. They also demanded Rs. 4.79 lakh from him.
The police informed that they have seized a fake press ID card, an Indica car, and Rs. 70,000 in cash.
