Belagavi: Lorry hits car and bike, 4 killed

Belagavi: In a horrific incident, four people were killed in a horrific accident involving a lorry, a car and a two-wheeler at Halaki-Budigoppa Cross on Yaragatti Road in Saundatti Taluk on Sunday September 26. The car was destroyed in the incident.

The deceased have been identified as Rukmini Halaki (48), who is the wife of Assistant Sub-Inspector Halaki of Kudachi police station in Raibag taluk, their daughter Akshata Halaki (22), and car driver Nikhil Kadam (24), a resident of Belagavi, and the pillion rider of the two-wheeler Hanumawwa Chippakatti (68). Gadigeppa Chipalkatti, a two-wheeler rider who suffered serious injuries in the accident, is receiving treatment at a local hospital.

According to sources, Rukmini was travelling from Belagavi to Jamkhandi in the Bagalakote District with her daughter Akshata. The car and the two-wheeler were struck by a lorry carrying cement bags from Lokapur to Goa near the Halaki-Budigoppa cross in the Saundatti Taluk. Two people died in the hospital while receiving treatment, and two more died on spot. The collision also caused extensive damage to the car.
