Belagavi: In a firm move, the Belagavi City Corporation (BCC) has implemented mandatory waste segregation for households. Residents are required to sort their waste into wet, dry, and hazardous categories before handing it over to municipal workers. Those failing to comply will face fines ranging from Rs 500 to Rs 5,000.
The BCC has been actively promoting awareness about waste segregation, urging people to use separate bins. After collection, the waste is sent to designated points for further sorting. Previously, the BCC had provided color-coded bins, but enforcement had been weak.
Following a city-wide inspection, the commissioner issued directives for strict enforcement. The initiative has already seen 70% participation, with penalties being enforced for non-compliance. Awareness is being spread through various mediums, including posters and announcements.
