Today marks the one-year anniversary of the successful launch of the Bengaluru-Belagavi Vande Bharat Express, a semi-high-speed train that was hailed as a significant improvement in regional rail connectivity. While the initial trial was successful and the necessary infrastructure is in place, the service has not been extended beyond its inaugural run, leaving commuters disappointed.
The Vande Bharat Express, launched last year, made its first journey from Bengaluru to Belagavi, covering the distance in 7 hours and 45 minutes, a significant improvement over the existing trains. With a top speed of 110 km/h, the train offered passengers comfort and speed, reducing travel time by more than two hours. However, despite the positive response and readiness of infrastructure, the service has not been made a regular feature.
Local residents and rail enthusiasts had high hopes for the Vande Bharat’s regular operation, as it promised faster connectivity between Bengaluru and Belagavi, a major city in the region. As the anniversary of its inaugural run passes, many are urging officials to prioritize the extension of this much-needed service.
The successful trial run demonstrated the potential of Vande Bharat Express to revolutionize travel in the region, and people continue to await its return. Officials now face growing pressure to act swiftly and make this service permanent, benefiting travelers and promoting greater accessibility.
