Belagavi: Due to the coronavirus outbreak, Chief Whip in the Legislative Council Mahantesh Kavatgimath and former MLA Ramesh Bhusanur decided to organise a simple ceremony for their daughter’s weddings.
Amid the recent surge in COVID-19 positive cases in the state, Bhusanur was forced to cancel the grand wedding ceremony that he had organised for his daughter Dr Preethi, which saw invitations extended to over 8,000 people. Instead, the former MLA opted for a low-key affair with family members.
Speaking to DHNS, Bhusanur said, “We have sent invite to over 8,000 people. I had invited several legislators and ministers for my daughter’s wedding and reception. Now, I am requesting many invitees not to attend the wedding. Once the situation eases, I will hold a reception in Sindagi town.”
Adhereing to the state governement’s directives regarding mass gatherings, MLC Kavatgimath also held a simple wedding for his daughter Dr Puja Kavatgimath at Shagun Gardens, Khanapur Road in Belagavi on Sunday, March 15.
Addressing the media, Kavatgimath said, “We had planned a grand marriage and made preparations, which started a few months back. But we have decided to keep it a simple affair following the Covid-19 outbreak. ut we have decided to keep it a simple affair following the Covid-19 outbreak. We will support the state government in the fight against the pandemic. The entire venue will be sanitised and awareness about Covid-19 will be created among the people attending the wedding.”
In Sringeri, JD(S) MLA TD Rajegowda also chose to have a simple wedding ceremony for his daughter Dr Sanjana at the Basapura estate.
Most Karnataka politicians, including CM BS Yediyurappa, are expected to skip the events due to the coronavirus emergency declared in the state.
