Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan has directed officials to address the issue of industries improperly disposing of waste along roadsides in Belagavi. During a district-level meeting on Friday, DC Roshan highlighted concerns about the disposal of various waste types, including sand, craft materials, and used oil.
The DC instructed the Belagavi City Corporation (BCC) and the Department of Mines and Geology to enforce proper disposal practices in line with pollution control board guidelines. Complaints from the public regarding industrial waste in public areas have prompted these actions.
DC Roshan also emphasized the need for regular inspections of industrial areas such as Auto Nagar, Udyambag, Honaga, and Navage, and called for fixing tax rates for industries in specific gram panchayats. The BCC has been focusing on household and commercial waste, while industrial waste remains the responsibility of the industries.
ZP CEO Rahul Shinde recommended a joint survey by the BCC, Buda, and the pollution control board to address waste disposal issues and hold workshops for industry management. Additionally, road repairs were requested by industrial representatives for routes frequented by employees.
The DC further ordered the formation of a committee to ensure the availability of uncontaminated vegetables, addressing concerns about the use of contaminated water by farmers along Ballari Nala.
