Dharawad: The Muslim holy festival of Ramzan was celebrated meaningfully in Hubballi. At Lamington Road, Chennamma Circle, and Sangolli Rayanna Circle premises including the prestigious Eidgah Maidan of Hubballi millions of Muslim devotees offered prayers on the last day of Ramzan.

The Muslim holy month of Ramadan ended on Friday April 21 and Eid-ul-Fitr (Ramadan) was celebrated on Saturday April 22, the first day of Shawwal. As per the tradition of Ramadan festival, Muslims fast for a month.

They fast from sunrise to sunset without food and water. Remembering God (Allah) is done not only by fasting (Roja) but also by giving charity (Zakat) Namaz, recitation of Quran, Taraweeh.

It is the ninth month according to the Islamic calendar. Lunar calendar is followed by Muslims. The reason is that the date of Ramadan is changing. As per the belief of this practice, fasting is done diligently to strengthen one’s relationship with Allah, to increase self-confidence, the importance of hunger and to bring good fortune. Every day of the month, Muslims keep their faith in Allah by celebrating this festival. They not only engage in prayer, Quran recitation and charity but also strengthen their association with friends and family.

The most important time of the fast is Iftar, when everyone gathers together in mosques, some people gather at homes and bring all kinds of fruits including dates, bananas, melons and eat them collectively after breaking the fast.
