Dharawad: MCC Commissioner Dr. B Gopalakrishna said, “The Gajanana Utsava Mahamandal has requested the Municipal Corporation (MCC) to install the idol of Kamanna at Rani Chennamma Idgah Grounds on the occasion of Holi Poornima. But we have not given permission as there is no proper security. In view of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit, the application for installation of the statue of Kamanna was not considered for security reasons,” he said.

Speaking to mediapersons in the City, he said, “We have already called the organisers and told them. The Mayor held discussions with the members and stated their stand. But in the end, it is the Commissioner who has to give permission. So we have had to have discussions with the police officials for security reasons. Due to PM Modi’s arrival, police personnel will go to Dharawad in view of police security. However, the request was not considered on May 7, he said.

The Mayor has expressed his opinion. We have informed the organisers that our focus is on Modi’s programme. We did not consider the application as Modiji will come for the inauguration of the IIT. As a precautionary measure, we did not allow the installation of Kamanna’s statue at the Idgah Maidan. I have not been pressurised by any political leader, he said.
