Dharawad: Police arrested Sri Ram Sena leader Pramod Muthalik for protesting against the Tipu Jayanti celebrations at the Eidgah Maidan on Thursday November 10.
He was stopped at Chennamma Circle, as he was on his way to the Eidgah Maidan to take part in the protest. Later, the police took him to CAR Ground in his own car. His workers and supporters were also detained and taken in a government bus.
Speaking to mediapersons, Muthalik said, “We condemn Tipu Jayanti celebrations. Tipu was anti-Hindu and anti-Kannada and we won’t allow the celebrations. It is wrong to honour someone who has converted others by force. We also condemn the Hubballi-Dharawad Municipal Corporation’s steps for making such a decision. We will file a PIL with the Karnataka High Court to put an end to the Tipu Jayanti celebrations.”
He slammed the State Government, saying that BJP is supporting the anti-national AIMIM party. “It is unethical to compare Tipu to other great leaders,” he said.
All the vehicles were being closely monitored and the police had increased security in the area of Eidgah Maidan as a precaution against Muthalik’s entry in the district.
