Dharwad: The area under undivided Dharwad district, including Gadag and Haveri, will be made smoke free in a period of one year, said MP Prahlad Joshi.
Speaking after inaugurating a campaign by Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (HPCL) at Hosayellapur here, Joshi said that all oil companies had chalked out plans to distribute LPG connection to all households. The Centre had set a target to provide eight crore new LPG connections in five years’ time, he informed.
This scheme will be implemented in a full-fledged manner in the region too, he said.
Commending the initiation taken by HPCL, Joshi said most of the households still depended on firewood, which led to health problems. This new scheme would have the dual benefits of providing clean fuel to the people and eradicating some of the health issues. Other oil companies too should join this movement, he added.
Former chief minister Jagadish Shettar launched the cashless transactions of HPCL on the occasion.
Former MLA Seema Masuti and district BJP leaders were present.
