Dharwad: Members of district units of All India Mahila Sanskritika Sanghatane (AIMSS), All India Democratic Youth Organisation (AIDYO), All India Democratic Students Organisation (AIDSO) on Thursday held a meeting to remember Nirbhaya, a paramedical student who was brutally raped and murdered in New Delhi four years ago.
The members who gathered at Shri Vivekananda Circle raised slogans and demanded security for women folk and ban on illicit literature among others.
Speaking on the occasion, AIMSS District President Bhuvana said the rape incident made everyone bow their head with shame. Despite the formation of Justice Verma Commission and submission of report was submitted to the government, it had not been implemented properly, she lamented.
The other speakers too stressed on containing atrocities on women by implementing stringent laws. AIDSO District President Sharanu Gonawar presided over the meeting.
