Rain severely damages many houses in Dharwad district

Dharwad: Heavy rains caused damage to 24 houses in different parts of the district. Incessant rain also led to the loss of animals’ lives. 24 houses were partially damaged in eight taluks, including 1 in Hubballi Rural, 2 in Alnavar taluk, 2 in Hubballi city, 6 in Kundgol taluk, 5 in Annigeri taluk, 3 in Navalgund taluk and 1 in Kalaghatgi taluk, 2 in Dharwad. In Honnapura, a buffalo died when a cattle shed of Siddappa Bheemappa Naik collapsed because of the continuous rain since last night.

The village administration officers and revenue inspectors have submitted a preliminary report to the tehsildar on all these cases. The Deputy Commissioner, Gurudatta Hegde, mentioned that a team will investigate and take all necessary action as per the government norms in disbursing compensation to the eligible beneficiaries. One person has lost their life, and 23 cattle have also been lost. Out of this, the loss of one human life and 17 cattle have already been compensated as per government norms. The rest will also get help soon after the inspection.

In total, since April, 83 houses have suffered partial damage, and six houses were severely damaged due to the rains. The Deputy Commissioner has assured that they would take the necessary action as per rules based on the reports from concerned authorities.
