Gadag: A case of online fraud has been reported, involving the misuse of the names of police officers. Specifically, an individual, using the name of IPS officer Ravi D. Channannavar, fell victim to a scam and lost Rs 55,000.
Ramesh Pattukala from Gadag district was defrauded of Rs 55,000. The scam involved online deception in the names of Ravi D. Channannavar and a CRPF jawan, Santhosh Kumar. The fraudster created a fake Facebook account in the names of Channannavar and CRPF jawan Santhosh Kumar, managing to deceive and extract Rs 55,000 from Ramesh.
The culprits engaged in WhatsApp conversations with Ramesh, convincing him that they were an IPS officer and a soldier. Ramesh later became aware of the fraud and filed a complaint with the Gadag cyber crime police.
