Gadag: Gadag is celebrating the 100th year of Mahatma Gandhi’s visit to the city. On this day, in 1920, Gandhiji had visited the city as part of the freedom movement of the country. In memory of his visit, a replica of Sabaramati ashram will be inaugurated today.

This replica has been built in the premises of the state Rural Development university. It is the brainchild of local MLA HK Patil, who was the state rural development and panchayat raj minister in Siddaramaiah government.

This replica has been built at an estimated cost of Rs.72 lakhs. The work started three years ago. Over 100 pictures of India’s freedom movement and Gandhi’s life are on display here.

A library, a statue of Gandhiji, a meditation room, are the other major attractions of this replica.

State RDPR minister KS Eshwarappa will inaugurate the replica today, November 11.
