Haveri: For the first time in 25 years, the Goonda Act has been invoked against two persons in the District. With this, the District Police Department has issued a warning message to all those involved in criminal activities.
Abid (Ubaidullah) Basheerasab Pathegowda of Hirehalli Village in Byadagi Taluk of the District and Abdul Saab of Hamsabhavi in Hirekerur Taluk, have been booked under the Goonda Act.
Both of them were kingpins who used to indulge in gambling and matka. Apart from this, the Goonda Act has been invoked against them for their involvement in several criminal activities and both of them are currently in jail.
The enforcement of the Goonda Act against two kingpins amid allegations that matka gambling is rampant in the District has boosted the confidence of the Police. In addition, it has sent a warning bell to the gamblers.
